POTENTIAL PAC

AN AFRICAN AMERICAN MAYORS POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE

ADDRESSING THE LACK OF ELECTORAL REPRESENTATION AT THE MAYORAL LEVEL

Studies demonstrate that economic mobility for African Americans - including housing, employment, wage growth, and other measures of socioeconomic success - occurs more rapidly under black mayors.

19%

LACK OF ELECTORAL REPRESENTATION

Only 19% of US Townships, towns and cities with majority black populations have a black mayor.

In fact, hundreds of black majority populations have never had a black mayor in their history.

Over half of black Americans and 80% of the black rural population live in just 15 southern states.

Over 3600 townships, towns and cities with majority black populations with rich histories dating back centuries.

13%

MORE MAYORS WILL LEAD TO

An increase in city budget allocation towards blacks and people of color under a black mayor.

12%

Average city budget allocated to blacks & people of color.

25%

Average city budget allocated to blacks & people of color with a black mayor.

$390 Billion

POTENTIAL OPPORTUNITY

Create $390B in annual wealth for black & other communities of color.

CHALLENGES

LACK OF FUNDING

PROVIDE RESOURCES TO ENDORSED CANDIDATES

INCREASING THE BLACK CANDIDATES RUNNING FOR MAYORAL OFFICE

Black candidates are often excluded from existing political donor circles, making it hard for candidates without personal resources or rich networks to raise the funds they need.

Black voters historically have chosen to donate to religious institutions and community organizations rather than political candidates.

CONNECTING CANDIDATES TO RESOURCES TO IMPROVE THEIR COMMUNITIES

Lack of economic development and investment means that a majority of the communities we will be investing in do not currently have the infrastructure necessary to capitalize on the $390 Billion in potential new business opportunities.

ACTION PLAN

Recruit and vet candidates/potential candidates for mayor in our target races who support Potential PAC’s core values and a commitment to investing in lifting up their community.

Provide world-class training and tactical/strategic counseling to our endorsed candidates to enable them to spend their limited resources in the most effective manner possible.

Direct Investment in selected campaigns as well as independent expenditures on voter registration, digital, radio and print advertising.

Connect our endorsed mayors with public-private partnership opportunities and programs (such as the Sootchy Education Program) post-election to train and educate for a workforce with growing opportunities.
